The Carbon Reduction Commitment

• The CRC is a mandatory scheme for companies with an annual energy usage above 6000 MWh per annum (c. £800,000 annual energy bill) and with a half-hourly meter
• A company’s total energy use and CO2 emissions for 2008 must be reported by October 2009, to determine eligibility
• A Footprint Year (April 2010-11) will establish baseline energy use and emissions
• A company will be obligated to reduce these emissions year-on-year by way of a deposit and pay back scheme
• Pay-back will be determined via a league table in which organisations will be ranked according to several criteria
