  • Planning permission secured

Greenspan Electric has received planning permission to erect two more wind turbines at Hill of Balquhindachy from Aberdeenshire Council’s Formartine Area Committee.

The application was recommended for approval by the local planning officer and the head of development management and building standards. It also received the full support of all 32 consultees.

Addressing the Committee, Grant Mackie, director of Greenspan Electric, stressed three key points:

    • The proposed site has great wind resource, and the existing turbine and the two additional proposed turbines attract fantastic local support and interest
    • Aberdeenshire lags behind the rest of Scotland in the delivery of renewable capacity, yet the county has enjoyed the greatest economic benefit from the development of the North Sea carbon energies of oil and gas
    • The UK is clearly exposed to an imminent energy gap as oil fired, coal fired and nuclear power stations are being decommissioned at the same time as our oil and gas reserves are diminishing. More than 10GW of capacity will be removed in the next four years (approx. 15% of the UK capacity).  Grant stressed that small, decentralised clusters of turbines were the best way to bridge this energy gap

We are delighted that the Council approved the application and are very grateful to the executives at Aberdeenshire Council for their help and guidance over the past 9 months.

The Company is now pressing to secure delivery of two more Vestas turbines and raise the necessary funding.
