February 2010

  • Feed In Tariff announced.

    On the 1st February 2010 the UK government announced the finalised Feed-In Tariff (FIT) rates, which will be implemented on the 1st April 2010. This system is intended to encourage the uptake of small-scale low-carbon energy technologies and will help to:

    • engage communities, businesses and domestic households in the fight against climate change;
    • reduce reliance on centrally generated electricity;
    • increase security of supply; and
    • reduce losses through transmission and distribution networks.

    The final tariffs are higher than anticipated and the announcement marks a very exciting time in the renewable energy sector.  The FIT will open up many micro-generation schemes that were previously too uneconomical to pursue under the RO, which is particularly encouraging for anaerobic digestion, hydro, PV and small-scale wind.

    The Greenspan Agency Ltd. is ideally placed to assist with the development of renewable projects on both brown- and green-field sites, and we would be delighted to discuss the new opportunities that the FIT scheme may afford to you.
