Wind able to power 95% of Scottish homes in May 2017
Research is now showing that a very windy May provided enough energy to power 95% of Scottish homes for the month. Wind turbines contributed 863,494.63 MWh of electricity to the National Grid in May 2017, an increase of almost a fifth from May 2016. On 11 of a total 31 days in May, wind generated enough energy to supply 100% of Scottish homes.
Looking at Scotland’s energy needs on a larger scale, wind power generated almost half (46%) of Scotland’s total electricity requirements – including homes, business and industry – for the month of May.
